Nutrients are concentrated chemicals. When mixed improperly, they react with each other BEFORE your plants can absorb them.
Follow this order for ANY nutrient brand. This prevents precipitation and chemical reactions.
Why first: You need a diluted medium to prevent concentrated nutrients from reacting with each other.
Why second: Silica raises pH DRAMATICALLY (to 10+ pH). If you add it after other nutrients, it can cause them to fall out of solution.
Why third: Cal-Mag contains calcium, which reacts with sulfates. Add it BEFORE base nutrients to allow proper dilution.
Why fourth: In 2-part and 3-part systems, Part A or "Micro" contains calcium and calcium nitrate. This ALWAYS goes in first.
Why fifth: Part B contains phosphates, sulfates, and potassium. Adding it AFTER Part A prevents calcium-sulfate precipitation.
Why sixth: Once base nutrients are diluted and mixed, you can safely add supplements without reactions.
Why last: Every nutrient you add changes pH. Adjusting pH before adding all nutrients means you'll be chasing pH all day.
Every brand has a specific order. Follow these exactly to avoid precipitation.
⚠️ NEVER mix Pro Grow + Pro Bloom together. Use one OR the other. Core provides calcium. Stir dry powder for 2+ minutes to fully dissolve.
A before B. Always. Balance is potassium silicate (add after base). Stack for bloom boost.
Micro ALWAYS first. The phrase is "Micro, Gro, Bloom." Never change this order. FloraMicro has calcium that reacts with sulfates in Gro/Bloom.
Big Bloom first (low NPK, high microbes). Grow Big for veg, Tiger Bloom for flower. Shake bottles HARD — Fox Farm settles heavily.
CRITICAL: Part A → Cal-Nit → Epsom. NEVER mix calcium nitrate with Epsom salt directly (creates calcium sulfate precipitation). Always dilute between additions.
pH Perfect = NO pH adjustment needed (buffers automatically). A before B. Add supplements AFTER base. Do NOT pH adjust unless outside 5.5-6.5 range.
Mills Basis A contains calcium. B contains sulfates. Never mix concentrates together.
A before B. Shooting Powder is INTENSE — use only weeks 6-8, skip week 7. Roots Excellurator is expensive but worth it.
Prime for veg, Fire for bloom. Never use both together. Bud A before Bud B. Highly concentrated — start LOW.
A before B. Switch for transition. All In One for flowering boost.
A before B. Follow dosing chart exactly — very concentrated formula.
Micro, Grow, Bloom (in that order). Cal-Mag built into base formula (usually don't need extra).
Aptus = supplements only (not base nutrients). Add AFTER your base nutrient line. Ultra-concentrated (use sparingly).
Cal-Mag Plus first. Pure Blend Pro is organic-based (shake bottles hard). Liquid Karma for metabolic boost.

Visual signs that you've mixed nutrients incorrectly and what to do about it.

Pouring Part A and Part B directly together (without water) causes instant chemical reaction and precipitation. Nutrients lock out immediately.
Every nutrient you add changes pH. If you pH your water first, you'll be chasing pH all day as you add nutrients.
Adding nutrients too fast without stirring causes concentrated pockets that react with each other before diluting.
Silica raises pH to 10+. Adding it after other nutrients can cause them to crash out of solution at extreme pH.
Hot water (above 75°F) accelerates chemical reactions and can cause precipitation. Also damages beneficial microbes.
