Start with General Hydroponics Flora Trio — it works in every medium, has more feeding charts than any other brand, and is extremely forgiving for beginners. Once you're comfortable dialing in your EC and pH, switch to Athena Pro Line on coco for higher yields and more consistency.
Is Athena nutrients worth the switch from General Hydroponics?
For experienced coco/hydro growers seeking maximum consistency, yes. Athena's formulation is specifically designed for professional cultivators who dial in precise EC targets. For beginners or soil growers, General Hydroponics is more forgiving and has better community support.
Can I mix Athena and General Hydroponics?
Not recommended. Both are complete base nutrient systems designed to be used as standalone programs. Mixing two complete nutrient lines can create imbalances and lockout. Stick to one base line and add compatible supplements.
Does Athena auto-adjust pH?
No. Unlike Advanced Nutrients pH Perfect, Athena requires you to check and adjust your pH. Athena's formulation is designed for precise pH targeting (5.8–6.2 in coco/hydro). This is by design — experienced growers prefer control over automation.
What's the best way to get started with Athena?
Download the Athena feeding chart from our feeding-charts.html page or from Athena's website. Start with Week 1 EC targets and increase gradually. Monitor plant response. Athena Pro Line is highly concentrated — never exceed recommended doses. Start at the low end of EC targets for your first Athena run.
